Week 6 Reflection: Questions from Your Friends & Tagline Challenge
I’ve 3 questions from my peers on GenerasiGIGIH. Here are the things that I can share from your questions.
What kind of future self do you want yours to be? How will GenerasiGIGIH help you to become your future self?
Looking back a few years, I had lost my orientation in learning programming. because in my environment I don’t get a lot of massive information about programming and the world of industrial technology. when I lost my direction in studying I was determined to become a software engineer, I tried to get up again and started learning little by little, until I finally found the GenerasiGIGIH program, what I was amazed at was that this program was supported by one of the technology companies that big, Gojek.
I finally jumped in and until now I’m at the intermediate level I’m trying to understand learning continuously even though I don’t understand. Until finally I understood “oooh this is how”
In the GenerasiGIGIH, I also know many things about what Software Engineers do and what happens in them, and I learned what I have to prepare to become a reliable Software Engineer.
What do you think is so different and special about GenerasiGIGIH?
This is my first time following the program to this kind of mentoring stage. I get the knowledge that is out there maybe not be structured like this, I get the knowledge that is taught by people who have worked in it.
Besides that, GenerasiGIGIH is also different because it allows all of us to join and challenges us to go through the phases that have been provided by the committee. We have to reach a predetermined point so that we can get through the current phase. For example, from beginner to intermediate to advanced stage plus getting internship experience.
Outside of the technical class, several classes support us in our careers, such as English language classes with professional career readiness classes with XLFL and 101 IDP mentoring classes where IDP classes provide us with opportunities for discussion and exchange of opinions in preparing ourselves for our future careers.
So far this is the first program that I have ever participated in and this is also a stepping stone for me to be more enthusiastic in preparing for a career as Software Engineer
How do you deal with losing or setbacks in your life?
Previously I’ve said that I had lost my way in learning, I didn’t even know what I am doing with programming. To be honest, I really wanted a job as a Software Engineer, but at that time maybe didn’t get the opportunity to entire the environment of building up skill with programming or I am lacking in seeking information related to the environment or community.
The past is in the past. What I do today is I have to keep going on, no matter what happens, whether I am stuck or there are many errors, at least I do one thing every day or 1% of things I can do every day that I can allow me to learn a lot. Maybe you can look at the illustration from Atomic Habits by James Clear
I say again, even I was in technical class I still didn’t understand the classes and I tried to try it, tried to understand it, and I did that slowly seeing my abilities. What I emphasize is how I can be better than yesterday at least 1% every day. Because I believe that, with a lot of practice even 1% it will have a significant impact
Keep going on, keep fighting with the process, and believe in yourself to become what you want.
slow progress is still in progress
